An authentic, mid-range Maasai Mara Safari: What to expect at Tor’s Camp
If you're looking for an authentic Maasai Mara safari that delivers comfort, great food, and unbeatable wildlife without the high-end price tag, Tor’s Camp might be exactly what you’re after. Located within the National Reserve and shaded by the riverine forest of the Olare Orok River, Tor’s Camp offers the perfect balance of wild immersion and relaxed comfort.
Why Tor’s Camp is different
Tor’s Camp was built by safari-goers, for safari-goers. We know what matters most—great food, good beds, and being close to nature—and we’ve kept everything else simple and authentic. Our unfenced forest setting is alive with wildlife. A resident pod of hippos lives just beside camp, and you’ll often fall asleep to the sounds of lions, hyenas, and the rustle of the bush around you.
We’re inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve, in one of the most predator-dense parts of the ecosystem. That means you can start your game drive straight from camp and stay out until 7 p.m., maximising your chances of catching the golden hour and exciting wildlife activity.
Tor’s Camp is tucked away in the riverine forest of the Olare Orok river, keeping you cool on those hot Mara days.
Comfortable tents designed for the wild
All of our tents—whether you're staying in a Mtoni or Machweo—are designed to keep you connected to the bush without compromising on comfort. Our flagship Mtoni tents are raised on wooden platforms, they come with solar-powered electricity, cozy beds, and en-suite bathrooms. The bathrooms are open-sided for that immersive feeling, but still fitted with modern flushing toilets, hot showers, and natural bath products like handmade shampoo and conditioner.
As one guest wrote:
“We spent two nights in a family tent and we slept very well. The tent and beds were comfortable. The service was excellent. The chef made very healthy meals that were absolutely delicious.”
We want to keep our tents comfortable yet connected to the most important part of safari, the African wilderness.
Open spaces and a homely atmosphere
Our open mess tent is the heart of camp—a place where guests gather to enjoy delicious three-course dinners, swap stories over a drink, or simply sit back and listen to the hippos grumble from the river below. We believe in sharing the Mara the way it was meant to be: wild, open, and unfiltered.
“Loved the place and the food was just amazingly unexpected in quality and quantity—such a refined menu in the middle of the Mara!”
Flexible pricing that works for everyone
At Tor’s Camp, we keep all costs separate so you can see exactly what you’re paying for. Accommodation, meals, guide and vehicle hire, park fees, and optional extras like transfers or balloon safaris are clearly itemised—nothing bundled, nothing hidden.
This gives you the freedom to customise your safari based on your needs and budget. Whether you want us to handle everything or just provide great food, a beautiful camp, and an unbeatable location—we make sure you stay in control of your safari costs.
